Why self-builders choose us
Most electricians treat a one-off self-build as a nuisance between bigger jobs. We do the opposite. Getting the electrics right on a home you are building is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and we treat it that way.
- One point of contact. Pete plans it, wires it and certifies it. One number, one person who knows your job - no call centre, no chasing
- We help you spec it. In plain English, before a cable goes in - where the sockets, lights, data points and EV charger really want to go
- The full package. New supply, first fix, second fix, testing and the certificate. We handle the paperwork too - Building Control (LABC), NHBC and Premier Guarantee sign-offs
- An exact price up front. Not a rough guess. Build it yourself on the quote tool from Pete's real rate card, confirmed at a survey
- No VAT to add and no markup on materials - our margin is in the labour, so the figure you see is the figure you pay
- 20+ years on the tools and a written 10-year workmanship guarantee
A self-build we wired in Poole
Here is a recent one. A brand-new home built from the ground up in Poole, wired start to finish by Dorset Rewires - first fix on bare blockwork, through second fix, to a fully tested and certified home. The owner is one of our reviewers. These are real photos of real work.
How your home gets wired, stage by stage
Every self-build follows the same clear path, all to the current wiring regulations. Here is exactly what happens and when.
- Planning and design. We get involved early, from the design stage. We help you set out every circuit to your drawings - where the sockets, lights, data points and EV charger really want to go - so first fix runs to a clear plan, with nothing missed while the walls are open.
- First fix. This is the big one, and it happens before the plasterers arrive. We run all the cabling and fit the back boxes while the walls and floors are open. Book us in ahead of plastering - this stage sets your programme.
- Second fix. Once the walls are done, we fit the consumer unit (the fuse board), all the sockets, switches, data points and lights, then fit off and make live.
- Testing and inspection. We test and inspect the whole installation to BS7671, the 18th Edition wiring regulations, so every circuit is proven safe before you move in.
- Certificate and handover. You get an Electrical Installation Certificate for your home, and we notify Building Control (LABC) for the notifiable work. Your home is ready.
Get the electrics right while the walls are open
Every socket, every data point, every light and switch goes exactly where you want it - while it is cheap and easy to do. Tell us the spec and we wire it in from first fix.
- CAT6 data backbone and networking - wired-in data points for a fast, reliable smart home
- Smart lighting - app and voice control, scenes and dimming, planned in from the start
- EV-ready charge points - the supply and cabling for a car charger on the drive
- PV-ready supplies - the wiring in place for solar panels and a battery
- Heat-pump wiring - the dedicated supply an air-source heat pump needs
- MVHR wiring - for the ventilation systems airtight, low-energy homes rely on
- External and outbuilding power - garden sockets, outside lighting, and power to a garage or workshop
Not sure what you need? That is normal. Pete talks it through in plain English and helps you pick what is worth wiring in now and what can wait. There is no upsell - you only pay for what goes in.
Got your plans?Build a price for your self-build wiring now, on Pete's real rate card. Price my self-build →The cheapest time to add anything is now
The cheapest time to add a socket, a data point or an EV supply is while the walls are open. Once the plaster is on, adding anything means chasing walls back open, more mess, and more cost. So the earlier we are involved, the more you get for your money.
- Plan it once, wire it once - no costly rework after plastering
- Lock your slot - first fix has to land before the plasterers
- Spec it right the first time - Pete helps you decide before a cable goes in

Your exact price, today
Here is the part other electricians will not give you: your price, today. Our quote tool builds an indicative price for your plot from Pete's real rate card - the same maths he uses on site - then confirms it exactly at a survey. It is a real quote, not a rough estimate or a guide figure, and it costs you nothing to get one.

Quick answers
Do you wire one-off self-builds?
Yes, and we love them. Your self-build gets the same full first-fix-to-certificate service as any developer plot, and you deal with Pete the whole way through. One number, one person who knows your job.
Can you help me plan the electrics?
Yes. Before a cable goes in, Pete sits down with you and helps you spec it in plain English - where the sockets, lights, data points and EV charger really want to go, while the walls are still open. Get it right once and you never chase a wall open later.
When do you need to be on site?
The key stage is first fix, before the plasterers arrive. All the cabling and back boxes go in while the walls and floors are open, so booking us in ahead of plastering keeps your build moving.
Can I get a price before I commit?
Yes. Our quote tool builds an indicative price for your plot from Pete's real rate card, then it is confirmed exactly at a survey. It is a real quote, not a rough guess, and it costs you nothing.
Do you certify the work and sort Building Control?
Yes. We issue an Electrical Installation Certificate for your home and notify Building Control (LABC) for the notifiable work. We are familiar with NHBC, LABC and Premier Guarantee sign-offs.
What guarantee do you give?
A written 10-year workmanship guarantee. There is no VAT to add, and no markup on materials - our margin is in the labour.
