Electrician in Verwood, Dorset (BH31)
Electricians for Verwood and all of BH31. Verwood is the youngest housing stock we work on, so here is the honest headline: most Verwood homes do not need a rewire. They need the board sorting and the capacity raised. We will tell you which one you are, for free. The price goes in writing before a tool comes out, and only your own changes can move it. No VAT to add. No markup on materials.
Price your Verwood rewire yourself
You do not have to wait for a quote to get a number. Price it yourself on the quote tool before we ever visit. It runs off the same rate card we quote from, so the figure is a real one, not a guess.
A free survey then turns that figure into a written fixed price. There is no VAT to add, and we charge materials at cost with no markup - our margin is in the labour, and your price is fixed. That is the promise: the number only moves if you change the job.

Verwood boomed late - what that means for your wiring
Verwood grew faster than almost anywhere in Dorset. A quiet brick-and-pottery village became a town in one long building boom through the 1970s, 80s and 90s. That changes the honest advice, because the town splits three ways:
- The early boom estates (1960s-70s) are now 50 years old. If a home from then has never been rewired, it is due - old board, no RCD protection, circuits sized for a different life.
- The 80s and 90s homes - most of Verwood - usually do NOT need a full rewire. The cable is generally sound. What they need is a modern consumer unit and an EICR safety report, at a fraction of the cost.
- The old village stock - the cottages and bungalows that pre-date the boom - can hide genuinely old wiring behind modern decor. These are the ones worth checking properly.
We will tell you which one you are. A free survey and a quick on-the-spot check, and if the wiring is fine, we say so - selling you a rewire you do not need is exactly what our promise rules out.
Check your board before you check anything else
In a town this new, the board tells you nearly everything. Go and look at yours:
- No test button anywhere on it - that means no RCD, and on an 80s or early 90s house that is the single thing most worth fixing
- One test button covering the whole house - common in the 90s. It works, but one fault anywhere puts every light out, including the stairs at night
- A board crammed full with no spare ways - the reason a charger or a hot tub turns into a bigger job than you expected
- An RCD that trips now and then for no clear reason - usually a tired circuit rather than a faulty RCD, and it is findable
- A 1970s home still on its first wiring - the earliest boom estates are the ones genuinely at rewire age now
- Warm plugs, scorch marks or a buzz from the board - stop using it and call us
Chargers, hot tubs and garden rooms
Verwood homes are newer, with driveways and decent gardens, so this is what people here actually ring about. The pattern is always the same: the thing you want is straightforward, and the board is what says no.
- An EV charger needs its own protected way at the board. On a full 90s board there is nowhere to put it without changing the board first.
- A hot tub is a heavy, permanent load on a long outdoor run. It is not an extension lead job, whatever the delivery driver says.
- A garden room or office needs a proper buried armoured supply with its own isolation, not a spur off the garage.
We quote the board and the new circuit together, as one fixed price, so you are not told halfway through that it needs another job first.
Do you have to move out?
For a full rewire, yes - we rewire empty properties only. It is dusty, noisy work with the power off, and it goes quicker with nobody in. In Verwood that mostly applies to the older village houses rather than the estates.
For smaller jobs you stay put. A new consumer unit, an EICR, an EV charger or a few extra sockets are all done around you, on a day that suits - and in Verwood, the smaller job is very often the right answer.
What it costs

- 2-bed - from around £3,800 to £5,500
- 3-bed - from around £4,500 to £7,000
- 4-bed - from around £6,500 to £11,000
- 5-bed and up - from around £10,000 to £16,000

Quick answers
Do you cover my part of Verwood?
Yes. We cover all of Verwood and the BH31 postcodes, from the town centre out to Dewlands Common, Potterne Park and Ebblake, plus nearby Three Legged Cross, West Moors, Ashley Heath, St Leonards and Ringwood. There is no call-out charge for Verwood.
How much does a rewire cost in Verwood?
Most rewires run from about £2,800 for a 1-bed flat to around £11,000 for a 4-bed house. There is no VAT to add. Your price is fixed in writing after a free survey. See the cost guide for the full breakdown.
My Verwood house was built in the 1980s or 90s - do I really need a full rewire?
Probably not, and we will tell you straight. Wiring from the 80s and 90s is usually sound. What those homes often need is a modern consumer unit and an EICR safety report - a fraction of the cost of a rewire. If the wiring is fine, we say so.
Is it just rewires, or small jobs too?
Both. As well as full rewires we do consumer unit upgrades, EICR safety reports, EV chargers, extra sockets and lights, and fault-finding. You stay home for the small stuff.
Do I have to move out?
Only for a full rewire, which we do on empty properties. An EICR, a fusebox swap or a charger all happen around you, kettle on.
Are you qualified, and is there a guarantee?
Yes. We are Part P registered, and every rewire comes with a 10-year workmanship guarantee in writing.
